From when I first met Helen for tea, cake and a good old wedding planning natter at Bickerdickes Garden Centre near Letchworth, I knew this was a wedding I didn’t want to miss.

As she told me about how they’d met, a little of their story and their plans for the day, one thing stood out: the love and energy being poured into their wedding day by friends and family alike.

From homemade bunting, a homemade ribbon arch, homegrown flowers, homemade wedding cake and table centres, place names, table plan, photo booth – and even the marquee – Helen and Matt’s family and friends had a hand in every aspect of their day. They simply couldn’t squeeze in any more personal love, care and attention to detail if they tried.

Helen + Matt’s Almshoebury Farm Wedding | Morning preparations

Family is at the heart of everything Helen and Matt stand for, so it was fitting for both of them to get ready at their family homes. With neighbours dropping by and friends and family around it was the perfect way to start the day. Being able to capture them both in their family homes, with years of memories around was quite special.

Helen + Matt’s Almshoebury Farm Wedding | The Ceremony at St.Nicholas Church

The ceremony took place at St.Nicholas Church in Norton near Letchworth, with musical segments from Matt’s brother and Helen’s best friend, and the marriage conducted by the super lovely vicar, Claire.

Getting married at St.Nicholas Church in Norton, near Letchworth was particularly poignant – with Helen’s grandparents having married there years ago.

After some quick group photos, guests bundled into a red double decker bus and headed off to greet Helen and Matt at Almshoebury Farm.

Almshoebury Farm near Hitchin was the obvious reception venue. With huge farmland for their marquee and outdoor games, panoramic views of the rolling Hertfordshire countryside and glamping pods for onsite overnight accommodation, it was the perfect spot for a fun and relaxed wedding for this outdoor loving couple.

Helen and Matt’s guests treated them to a truly fabulous confetti tunnel, after which everyone enjoyed drinks and canapes whilst we snuck off for some awesome portraits.

Speeches so good, so full of love, and with so much warm, honest humour my heart and face ached. You know the speeches are good when you’re having to hold back tears – and you’re not even part of the family. Speeches so good they make you want to petition the family to adopt you.

And wowza, these guys knew how to party.
