When it comes to newborn shoots and baby and early years family photos, I’m a firm believer in keeping things simple. 

Life’s complicated enough, but your family is beautiful just as it is. Let’s capture it as honestly and as candidly as possible, at home, just as you are.

Beautiful family memories don’t have to be carefully curated with non-stop smiles. That’s not real life. There’s no such thing as a baby who doesn’t cry or need a cuddle and there’s beauty in the honesty of images with all the emotion of the early weeks.

I’m a Hertfordshire family photographer and it’s always a huge privilege to be welcomed into family homes to capture family moments. 

This gorgeous natural family photoshoot in Hitchin had all the ingredients for a gallery of family photos to treasure forever: beautiful baby, relaxed parents, beloved pets – and all the familar surroundings of home. From the décor and colours to the furniture and books, soft toys and teddies, nursery mobile, crib and chair – everything that, in years to come will help tell the story of how home was at that moment in time.

Having a photoshoot in your own home environment, with familiar toys and home comforts helps keep little ones at ease and means there’s no over-thinking nappy change locations, feed times or other logistics that can sometimes get in the way of an otherwise relaxed and easy-going photoshoot.

What I especially love about home photoshoots (aside from the fact you can relax with a cuppa and the biscuit barrel!) is that in years to come, you’ll have a gallery of images that remind you of home – exactly as it was. 

I so enjoyed meeting this lovely family of five – Mummy, Daddy and baby, plus two very special furry friends. 

There was no special coordination for this shoot. We just enjoyed a couple of hours of taking it easy and working around little one’s nap and feed times and made sure the furry friends got in on the action too. 

Home shoots mean that pets can get in on the action, too.
