Meaningful family photography doesn’t need to be posed perfection. Documentary photographers like me revel in unscripted, genuine moments, where the action unfolds without prompts or interference. Where the giggles and laughter flow naturally – no say cheese awkwardness. Just real, honest, spontaneous fun.

Give me a paddling pool, two fun-loving cousins armed with water blasters and an afternoon in the garden with my cameras and this is what you get. A gallery of natural, candid images brimming with joy that sum up a precious afternoon of simple, carefree childhood fun.

Being able to capture these natural moments has never been more meaningful. After all the Covid restrictions and limitations we’ve lived with for so long, simple pleasures have taken on an extra special significance.

Enjoy the simple things. Cherish your gang. Love your little people and enjoy your bigger people. Make memories. Get the paddling pool out. Get splashed. Book a photographer and get in the frame too. Days like these are so precious. They need to be treasured, captured, crammed into cameras and recorded, printed off for the walls and enjoyed for years to come.

After the past eighteen months I’ve never been more sure that it’ll be memories of days like these – and the hope of more to come – that will help us get through the challenges ahead.
